A DECADE OF POLO WITH A PURPOSE
1 July 2019, Val de Vie Estate – For the tenth consecutive year, polo serves as a platform to create awareness for breast cancer at the Pink Polo presented by Biomedical Emporium. On Saturday 9 November 2019 the much-anticipated event returns to Val de Vie Estate, celebrating a decade of purposefully aligning a worthy cause with the Sport of Kings.
Biomedical Emporium, pioneers in skin care and professional treatments, is the headline sponsor for the first time for this prestigious event. Dr Judey, Biomedical Scientist and CEO of Biomedical Emporium remarks that: “As a partner of Pink Polo, we aim to provide awareness of optimal and aesthetic healing using some of the most advanced biotechnology for breast cancer patients who have had mastectomy surgery. Guests can look forward to a day in the picturesque Winelands filled with all things pink and polo-inspired, with many memorable moments in store to share with friends, family or colleagues. The event pays tribute to survivors of breast cancer and serves as a platform to raise awareness for a disease that is most prevalent in women, but also affects a high number of men.
Polo attracts an enthusiastic, diverse and loyal community. It is exhilarating for spectators who not only enjoy a high-speed game but watch it with all senses fired up. It is exciting on the eye, with the sound of thundering hooves and the crack of mallet against ball adding to the thrill of the game.
2019 marks the anniversary of 150 years of polo as a modern game. It is a sport that demands a special bond between horse and rider, a unique fusion of athletic talents – stamina, strength, flexibility and skill. While the sport has its roots thousands of years ago in East Asia, it appeared in its more modern form in England for the first time 150 years ago. Today, polo is the only contact sport where men and women can compete on an equal level.
The measurement of time has long fascinated mankind, and timekeeping of chukkas is key to any polo match. Luxury swiss watch maker Jaeger-LeCoultre returns as Timekeeping Partner.
Luxury fashion label, ElricoZarr by Elrico Bellingan, will adorn the female MC, Pink Polo Legacy Guests and models in the bespoke fashion show as official Fashion Partner. Argentinian luxury polo attire brand, La Martina, will ensure our male MC and models are the epitome of style for a day at the polo as Polo Fashion Partner.
The dress code for this year’s event is ‘Authentic Polo’, encouraging guests to dress chic yet comfortable for an afternoon under the summer sun on the lush green grass of the Val de Vie Estate polo field. Style inspiration and dress code guidelines will be provided by Donna Kennedy-Meyer, established personal stylist and image consultant.
Independent banking and financial services group SASFIN is the official Finance Partner for the 2019 chapter of the event.
Themed ‘Authentic Polo’, the 2019 colour scheme is pink, deep blue and touches of gold that incorporate the regal association of the sport as a luxury pastime. Décor and artistic interpretations of polo will be created by Décor Partner Something Different.
Bril Optometrists is the official Eyewear Partner and will have a selection of designer eyewear available in their pop-up store at the event. Elizabeth Arden as Beauty Partner and Tosca as Hair Partner will ensure that MC’s and esteemed guests look radiant and beautiful. Fragrance Partners Juicy Couture and John Varvatos will keep female and male guests smelling fresh with their signature fragrances.
Veuve Clicquot Rose will be engaging as Champagne Partner for the event. Pouring Partner, Hendricks Gin, will be creating signature cocktails in conjunction with Beverage Partner Clark & Sons while Beer Partner Heineken will offer refreshment.
The Mantis Collection is on board as official Hospitality Partner and will be offering guests special rates in the Pearl Valley by Mantis hotel on Val de Vie Estate. Human Carrier Partner, Sports 24 Hours & Taxis will take care of transportation of guests.
Coco-Mat’s inventive “Pillow Positive”, specifically made to reduce discomfort during the process of breast cancer treatment, will form part of the Pink Polo giving again this year and will be donated to breast cancer patients in the Paarl-Franschhoek Valley. Coco-Mat is a Supplier Partner for the event.
For the first time, Lakrids joins as Confectionery Partner and Viljoen Juweliers as Jewellery Partner.
